Program Overview

Enjoy 8 days 7 nights exploring the wonders of Utah’s Mighty 5, along with the wonderful new Rockies to Red Rocks route by Rocky Mountaineer.

Photography is the focus this week as you have the opportunity to capture the lights, colors, and unique geological formations of all 5 National Parks found in Utah, including Zion, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Arches, and Canyonlands.

Then take a luxury journey along the Colorado River from the Red Rock formations of the Colorado Plateau to the alpine vistas of the Colorado Rockies.

Your Curriculum

At A Glance

DAY 1: Welcome to Las Vegas

Welcome to Las Vegas! You will arrive at the Las Vegas Airport by 1:00 p.m. to meet your Learning Journeys local Guide, and then travel to St. George, UT.

DAY 2: Zion - Human History Museum

Photography shoot at Zion- Sunset Photography Shoot,
This morning after breakfast, you will transfer to Zion National Park (1 hour). Upon arrival, you will have a guided morning photography shoot in Zion. After getting some breathtaking shots, it’s off to the Human History Museum.

DAY 3: East Zion - Bryce Canyon

Photography session in East Zion and Bryce Canyon-Sunset photography

DAY 4: Grand Staircase Monument - Capitol Reef- Sunrise Photography, Sunset Photography

This morning you will have the option to attend sunrise photoshoot at Bryce Canyon before breakfast.

DAY 5: Morning Photography / Sunset photography-Canyonlands National Park

Enjoy morning photography from your gorgeous hotel views.

DAY 6: Arches National Park – Ride the Rails-Rocky Mountaineer!

Today, your morning sunrise photoshoot will take place in Arches National Park at Delicate Arch.

DAY 7: Rail Experience-Denver

Board the Rocky Mountaineer and depart Glenwood Springs for a wonderful scenic rail journey through the Colorado Rockies to Denver.

DAY 1: Welcome to Las Vegas

After getting settled, there will be a welcome dinner at 5:00 p.m. with your guide/photographer for a trip review. After, there will be an optional evening photoshoot at Red Cliffs Desert Preserve or Snow Canyon State Park.

Learning Experience: Evening photography shoot

Meals included: Dinner
Overnight in St George, UT
Hotel: Inn on the Cliff or similar


DAY 2: Zion - Human History Museum

Following an educational visit at the Human History Museum, you will head to the Pa’rus Trail to see more natural beauty. This 3.5-mile trail is paved for both walking and cycling, and comes from a Paiute word meaning, “bubbling, tumbling water.” You will notice the connection of the name as you stroll through this trail that follows along the Virgin River.

After your time on the trail, you will be able to photograph and witness the Court of the Patriarchs. This set of sandstone cliffs sits proudly in Zion National Park, named after the biblical figures Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Following your time in Zion National Park, there will be the chance to engage in an optional photography session from Scouts Lookout mid-morning, before enjoying a relaxing lunch and rest at Zion Park Lodge.

Today’s evening photography session will take place at Emerald Pools, River Walk, Virgin River Narrows, and Big Bend. A sunset photoshoot will be at Parus Trail/Virgin River Bridge for optimal sunset shots and viewing.

Learning Experience: Human History Museum, Photography shoot at Zion, Sunset photography shoot, Court of the Patriarchs.

Overnight in Springdale, UT
Hotel: Springhill Suites by Marriott or similar


DAY 3: East Zion - Bryce Canyon

This morning, you will begin your day with a photography session in East Zion NP, including East Canyon Overlook and various viewpoints. After getting some great shots, you will transfer to Bryce Canyon NP (1.5 hours). En route to Bryce Canyon, you will stop for some photography shots at Red Canyon.

Upon arrival, you will explore beautiful Bryce Canyon through a below-the-rim photography session on Peakaboo Loop to Navajo Loop Trail or the Queens Garden Navajo Loop Trail.

As the evening approaches, you will make stops for the sunset to enjoy the scenic photography at Natural Bridge and Rainbow, Yovimpa, and Inspiration Points. As you watch the sun set, the sky will darken and stars will illuminate, giving you the perfect opportunity for a
Dark Sky photography shoot in Bryce Canyon NP.

Learning Experience: Photography session in East Zion and Bryce Canyon, Sunset photography

Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner
Overnight in Bryce Canyon
Hotel: Bryce Canyon Grand Hotel or similar


DAY 4: Grand Staircase Monument - Capitol Reef- Sunrise Photography, Sunset Photography

After an exciting morning, you will embark on a journey of scenic photography of Grand Staircase Monument. En route, you will have many chances for unique photographs, including various Slot Canyons and overlooks.

This evening, there will be a sunset photoshoot in Capitol Reef NP. This includes Capitol Gorge scenic drive, Sulfur Creek Overlook, and Panoramic Point among others.

After taking in the breathtaking sunset views, you will have an opportunity to extend your nature shoot through an night sky photography session.

Learning Experience: Sunrise photography, Sunset Photography

Overnight in Torrey, UT
Hotel: Capitol Reef Resort or similar


DAY 5: Morning Photography / Sunset photography-Canyonlands National Park

After a delicious breakfast, you will have a morning photography shoot in Capital Reef NP, which will include Hickman Bridge, Grand Wash, Gifford Farmhouse, and Sulfur Creek areas.

Next, it’s time to admire your photography as you transfer to Moab, UT (3 hours). While en route, you will pay a visit to Goblin Valley.

Upon arrival, your evening photography will take place in Canyonlands National Park including Mesa Arch, Grandview Point, Buck Canyon Overlook, Green River Overlook, and Upheaval Dome.

Enjoy views from Green River Overlook and a late night photography session at Deadhorse Point. Afterward, there will be an optional night sky photography session as well.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch
Overnight in Moab, UT
Hotel: Homewood Suites by Hilton or similar


DAY 6: Arches National Park – Ride the Rails-Rocky Mountaineer!

After getting some great shots, there will be additional opportunities in Devils Garden at Landscape Arch, the Windows Section, LaSal Mt Overlook, and Courthouse Towers.

After a long morning of getting some great photography, it’s time for a picnic lunch prior to boarding the Rocky Mountaineer for an unforgettable train adventure. Depart for a scenic journey to Glenwood Springs for overnight.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 7: Rail Experience-Denver

Upon arrival, take a short walk to your hotel with the evening free to explore the Mile High City on your own.

Learn about the unique geology that exists in Southern Utah

Experience the multiple geological layers of the Grand Staircase and the volcanic intrusions and how they affect the surrounding geological layers
