About Learning Journeys

As a traveling classroom for all ages, Learning Journeys cultivates a symbiotic relationship between individuals and destinations, crafting every program to be a mutually beneficial experience. Whether engaging in an enticing interest, pursuing a field of study you are passionate about, or testing out a new career, you will become immersed in the local community and culture. Whatever learning program you choose – cooking, winemaking, distilling, photography, art, birding and wildlife study, languages, health and wellness, music, dance and more – you’ll find a range of programs in destinations the world over.

Participants will find purpose on Learning Journeys programs through in-depth immersions that offer a wealth of hands-on learning experiences. Each provides limitless opportunities to also learn more deeply about ourselves as well as the destinations, communities, and cultures visited. To officially document the skills learned, all participants will receive a Certification of Learning that opens the door for submission to employers, as part of a resume, and even a school application.

Each Learning Journeys program is designed to contribute to the communities visited through sustainable and regenerative travel practices. CEO Dr. Carol Dimopoulos has made it her mission to enhance the lives of women and other vulnerable people through initiatives designed to help improve lives and the planet.

Bio: Dr. Carol Dimopoulos, CEO

Dr. Carol Dimopoulos, CEO of Learning Journeys, has been a shining light in the tourism industry for more than 25 years. Launching an education-centered company during a global pandemic may seem counter-intuitive, instead, Carol sees unlimited potential in bringing her concept of the traveling classroom to life.

More than the culmination of a life-long dream, Learning Journeys is her vision to provide opportunities for others to continue their journeys of personal and professional growth while exploring other cultures and communities. And, in turn, her mission is to contribute to the economies of host communities through thoughtful tourism practices.

Beginning with her first foray into travel as a flight attendant, she has visited more than 40 countries, consulted with government tourist boards, served as a board member to prestigious tourism organizations, contributed to the growth and success of a number travel companies, committed time and energy to developing sustainable tourism practices in communities of need, and devoted herself to sharing her passion for life-long learning.

In 2020, while negotiating the independent acquisition of Learning Journeys which she founded as part of Perillo Tours in 2014, she received her Doctor of Education in Global Education and Leadership from The University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign. She is a researcher and published author on the topics of social entrepreneurship and responsible tourism. This follows her MBA in marketing from Sage Graduate School, as well as senior management level experience with brands from American Express to Celtic Tours World Vacations.

Taking the creed to “leave the world a little bit better than you found it” to heart, Carol has infused every Learning Journeys program with locally based experiences that contribute to the communities visited. These sustainable community interactions are central to the continuing education programs she has personally researched and developed around the world.
